Yay! & Whoopee! I now have a new modem in my computer and it works great. Ever since I started up this new DELL last September, we have had a lot of trouble connecting to the Internet. Yes, we still have dial-up. We keep watching the Verizon site, but so far no DSL for our phone number. I was about to the point of getting Adelphia, but DH (AKA 'Dad') hates the cable companies and we kept thinking surely we'd get DSL soon. Anyway, a couple of days ago it got to the point where we couldn't sign on to the Internet at all. So we hooked up my old DELL upstairs and connected to the internet just fine. So... Out for a new modem for the new DELL.

DH was on a roll yesterday. Not only did he install the modem, but got new batteries for my TV remote and re-programmed it (yes, we both have remotes, his ON/OFF button doesn't work and he can't seem to program mine for the BACK button).

I made a good recipe out of my Cheyenne Frontier Days Cookbook for supper last night. Italian Cavatini. Recipe on request.

I'm reading 'All the Pretty Horses' by Cormac McCarthy. The title reminds me of the old lullaby;
'When you wake, you shall have
All the pretty little horses.
Blacks and bays, Dapples and grays
Coach and six white horses.'

I read Barry Eisler's blog. He's pretty opinionated. The other day he was complaining about all the TV's and piped in music in public places. Ho-hum.

Then this morning I went to the Doctor's office to get my lab work done for my exam next week. Well, it used to be nice and quiet in the waiting room. I always took a crossword puzzle book or paperback and relaxed quietly until it was my turn. Today, there was a TV set up on the wall, turned up so EVERYBODY could hear. Annoying. So I sat in a chair that was underneath so I wouldn't have to look at it. Except I could still HEAR it. It must have been on the Animal Channel. They were operating on people's pets. One little doggie didn't make it. Ewww....... I didn't need that!

Fortunately, my turn came shortly afterwards. I wonder if complaining to my Doctor would do any good. Oh, well.

We did it! I'm so glad we roused ourselves and went out to eat last night. We went to Meriwether's out in Boonsboro. I like the Menu there. They have 'Small Plates', 'Medium Plates', and 'Large Plates'. It's great not to have to order a full big dinner like most restaurants have.

I had the Medium Plate of the Beef Tenderloin "Stack" - a petite fillet, spinach, smashed potatoes, portobello cap, and cabernet jus. And it did come in a vertical stack on the plate (so funny). Dad had a Small Plate - Quesadilla of the Day. We both ordered a 'half salad' to start. Everthing was excellent. Then we shared a dessert - Flourless Chocolate Cupcake Special (a single cupcake with ice cream & sauce). Heavenly!

Yesterday I also received a card and package from Kathy. She sent me a beautiful little silver necklace.

Also a card from my friend Georgia. We both have Birthdays in July and have a tradition of sending each other naughty cards every year. She's two years older, and I always remind her of it.

All in all, a very good day!

Happy Birthday to me! How did I get to be this OLD! Anyway, I got a Grandma Birthday card from the Ledbetters, an E-card from Robin and a card was on the kitchen table when I got up this morning (from Dad). It's supposed to be really hot today, I'm not sure I'll want to go out for my Birthday dinner. We'll see.

I just finished reading 'Fifty Degrees Below' by Kim Stanley Robinson. I liked it alot. It took me a little while to get into it, but not too much. It's set in Washington. D.C. in a near future world where the environment is starting to go haywire. I hadn't read any of his books since the Mars trilogy. This one I liked better.

I recently read 'Parable of the Sower' by Octavia Butler and the first half of the book reminded me of the Watts riots. Violent. Hard to get through.

Also recently read 'The View from the Center of the Universe.' Fascinating. I can't quite get my mind around the fact that wherever you are is the center. And I also didn't realize that it has been pretty well established that the Universe is made up up of 70% dark matter, 25% dark energy, and the few percent left is what we know about.

I saw a couple of movies last week. 'The Devil wears Prada' and 'Pirates of the Carribbean'. Meryl Streep was excellent as the Dragon Lady in 'the Devil' otherwise it was a just a pretty good chickflick. 'Pirates' was way too long. I know that because I started looking at my watch every ten minutes about halfway through. But, it was worth it for the Johnny Depp character.

I got the Bruce Springsteen CD album 'We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions'. It's pretty cool. It happens to be what they call a DualDisc. One side is the audio CD and the other side is video DVD. A first for me.

We went to the Community Market early Saturday morning. We got some 'Three Guys' tomatoes, first of the season - Yum!. I also bought a bucket of peaches from my favorite stand. I cut up one of them last night and added some bluberrries for a fruit salad compote. I also got some of the small pale purple Chinese Eggplants at the same stand. Now I have to think of how to cook them.

Saturday afternoon, I was running some errands and stopped by the Talbots store. The parking lot was really crowded and I noticed they were having a 40-60% off sale. The upshot is that I bought two pairs of jeans (60% off), two shirts (40% off), a scarf (60%off), a skirt and a black top. Wow! Now I've got to get back to excercising (walking) and watching what I eat. So hard to do.
