Golden Tresses of the Dead

The Golden Tresses of the Dead (Flavia de Luce #10)The Golden Tresses of the Dead by Alan Bradley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

10% note
On listening to Gute Nacht aus Schuberts Winterreise
Great music has much the same effect upon humans as cyanide, I managed to think: It paralyzes the respiratory system.

20% note
Regulation funeral feast (consisting of ham sandwiches and fairy cake), and be back home in London in time for tea.
How civilized it seemed! And how British
Fairy Cake is British for cupcake ??

55%
It was by the American composer Samuel Barber: Adagio for Strings. I cranked up the Victrola and dropped the needle into the grooves. If anything could make me sleep, this was it. (I totally agree!)

Rachmaninov Conncert 1/11/2019

Piano Concert

Pianist Robert Statham has included the music of Rachmaninoff in his repertoire for a long time, and now he has put together a program including some of the composer's most  Beautiful and most loved piano pieces. After performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3, the Washington Post said, "The soloist played with ease and self-confidence one of the most difficult pieces ever written for piano. His controlled yet stirring key work created a thrill of expectation with each new swell of crescendo decrescendo airings." Statham has been an award winner from the very beginning of his career, winning the Chopin award for gifted young pianists and a mayoral citation in Baltimore among others.
