Bridge Luncheon

These geraniums look so pretty on the front porch. I won them as a door prize at a Bridge luncheon I attended earlier this week.
I am just getting back to playing bridge after a lapse of about 25 years. A good friend is helping. We are taking brush-up lessons together to get me started.

Foma

I recently saw this word in a Blog and now I can't find the blog. I thought it must be a typo, but this Wikipedia definition makes me believe that it was in one of the online tributes to Kurt Vonnegut:

foma
"Harmless lies" (e.g., "Prosperity is just around the corner"). Bokonon describes his own religion as foma, created for the purpose of bringing comfort to the people of Bokonon's island. The people of San Lorenzo live under a poverty-stricken Third World dictatorship, but thanks to the comforting untruths of Bokonon's foma, they are better equipped to face reality (following Vonnegut's early theories about the true usefulness of religion).

(4/17/2007 - found the reference. It was in Chris Lehmann's Blog).

Sweet Potato Casserole

I'm making this recipe tomorrow for Easter. We'll have ham also. I'll have asparagus, and GW will have green beans.

1 can sweet potatoes (40 ounce) drained
and mashed
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons margarine or butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
Topping:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1 cup pecans, diced
5 tablespoons margarine or butter, melted

1 Preheat oven to 350ยบ F and forget your calorie
count for the day.
2 Mix first seven ingredients together and pour
into buttered casserole pan.
3 In a separate bowl, combine the topping
ingredients. Crumble over the top of sweet
potatoes, then bake for 30 to 45 minutes.
4 Enjoy multiple servings and worry about working
off the calories later :-).

Note: I don't like canned sweet potatoes, so I cook my own fresh.

SciFi Bookcase

My SciFi bookcase; contains mostly C. J. Cherryh, Lois McMasters Bujold, Sharon Lee and Steve Miller. I have the full set of C. J. Cherry's 'Foriegner' series. Then there is a smattering of Eliz. Moon, Greg Bear, Robert Silverberg, David Brin, S. l. Viehl and Ursula LeGuin.

The pink Flamingo is from Disney's second 'Fantasia' movie. Maybe the stuffed dragon represents Anne McCaffrey?

Memes

I just finished reading 'The God Delusion' by Richard Dawkins. Acording to Wikipedia he coined the word 'meme' .

' Richard Dawkins coined the term meme, which first came into popular use with the publication of his book 'The Selfish Gene' in 1976. Dawkins based the word on a shortening of the Greek "mimeme" (something imitated), making it sound similar to "gene". '

I have seen this used in Blogs, and I'm still not sure these people are using the term correctly.
Anyway seems like several of the blogs I read are showing their Bookcases - so here goes:
The Playdoh on top of the Bookcase is for when my Grandson comes to visit .
